Happy Monday and Happy Pride! 🏳️🌈
There are only TWO weeks left before the end of the 2nd quarter.
Make sure to write down actionable steps you can take to achieve your goals for this quarter. Need to reassess? No problem, sit down with your boss and make new obtainable goals.
June is also Pride month! This month we pay tribute to the Stonewall Riots and celebrate everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community. This weekend we also observed Juneteenth, a holiday celebrating the emancipation of the last slaves in Galveston, Texas.

What Coaching Is? What Coaching Is Not?
This week, Forbes published the article "How Executive Coaching For Leaders At Every Level Can Help Your Bottom Line."
The article defines executive coaching as, "Focused coaching helps emerging leaders in your company, middle managers and mid-senior executives identify and achieve professional goals that are both strategic and practical. With the right coach, your people who are already on the cusp of leadership greatness can enhance key competencies, grow their decision-making skills, up to their communication game and work on specific areas that need improvement, honing, and polishing."
While we agree, statistics show Black and Latinx employees are often historically excluded and need more career development resources.
So what can you expect from coaching, and how can you best approach the engagement to receive the most out of your coach?
Coaching Is:
Accountability from a trained professional who focuses on talent development and offers a skillful approach to help you define and meet your goals.
An opportunity to deepen your self-awareness and shift behaviors as needed to become your best self.
Timely feedback and support on your real-time work challenges.
Access to tools/resources to create your own plan for effectively making progress on your goals.
Coaching Is Not:
A substitute for therapy or counseling.
A "shortcut" to achieving your goals.
Prescribed solutions for problems you are encountering or skills training in developmental areas.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Coaching Engagement
Understand that coaching is a comprehensive process that may involve all areas of your life, including work, finances, health, relationships, education, and recreation. Acknowledge that deciding how to handle these issues, incorporate coaching into those areas, and implement my choices is exclusively your responsibility.
