Finding Purpose In Your Position: C-Suite Coach Chat

Were you unable to attend the C-Suite Coach Chat hosted by the New York Urban League? Don’t worry! We have compiled a summary of the crucial insights gained from our enlightening discussion titled "Finding Purpose in Your Position" with Jeanne Adams, Senior Director of DEI, CSR, and Internal Communications at Christian Dior Couture and Karina Schneider, Executive Coach, C-Suite Coach.

Here are some key takeaways from the conversation:

  • Finding purpose is a journey: It's okay not to have it all figured out right away, self-reflection can get you started. Jeanne shared: “I would tell somebody to even if you have to think back to when you were a kid, what were those things that really brought you you were energized to do or that you would naturally do without your parent fussing at you or your teacher hounding you down. What is that thing? And then connecting it to roles that allow you to do those jobs. Embrace curiosity and be open to exploring different paths.”

  • Purpose extends beyond work: Your job doesn't have to be your sole source of fulfillment. Find ways to express your purpose in other areas of your life. Karina expanded on this, “Be expansive! I think if we remind ourselves that there are many aspects to our lives than So work is a slice of it and if our work is not the biggest source of purpose or fulfillment for us but it gives us what we need to have a decent life for ourselves and for the people we care about financial security. How do we use that comfort and relief to give us energy to then use in other spaces of our lives where we can express our purpose? And I deeply believe that there are other ways to do that.”

  • Know your values and communicate them: Identify your core values and seek out organizations and roles that align with them. Don't be afraid to interview potential employers to ensure a good fit.

  • Overcome fear and seek support: Executive coaching can help you address fears and make meaningful career changes.

  • Find purpose even in challenging times: The current economic and social climate may impact your search for purpose, but it also presents opportunities for reflection and growth.

  • Stay connected in remote positions: Be intentional about building relationships with colleagues and find ways to feel part of a community.
